3 Reasons To Choose Clear Braces

Dentist Blog

Many Americans have naturally crooked or gapped teeth, but braces provide a way to get a straight smile. In the past, metal braces were the norm; however, more and more patients are choosing Invisalign clear braces for their many benefits. If you need braces but are hesitant about getting metal braces, check out these three facts about clear braces.

They Use Plastic Aligners to Move Teeth

Invisalign braces use plastic aligners to move your teeth. Dentists reposition the teeth slowly with a series of invisible aligners that eventually move them to their desired location. These aligners have two benefits over traditional metal braces: they are clear and smooth. The aligners sit snugly against your teeth, and because they are clear no one can see them unless they are closely inspecting your teeth. In most cases, people won't even know you're wearing braces. The plastic is also smooth, which is comfortable in your mouth. With metal braces, you may have a wire or bracket poking or scratching the inside of your mouth.

They Can Be Removed

The aligners are removable, but you should leave them in unless you are eating or cleaning your teeth. If you remove them too often, your treatment may not progress. In some cases, your teeth may also start to revert back to their original position. Your dentist will recommend removing the aligners to eat because you can cause damage to them if you eat while wearing them. Because they are removable, food and liquids can get trapped in the aligners if you don't properly clean your teeth after eating. Therefore, you may need to ensure you have a toothbrush and floss with you at all times. Typically, it's only recommended to drink water while wearing your aligners or without cleaning your teeth.

They Can Reduce the Risk of Decay/Staining

As long as you continue to brush and floss before replacing the aligners, they can reduce the risk of decay and staining that is associated with braces. Metal braces make it difficult to clean your teeth properly. Your dentist will likely recommend avoiding many foods or beverages that can get stuck in your braces or stain your teeth. If your teeth do stain, after the braces are removed there may be a small whiter portion of tooth where the bracket protected the enamel. Because you can remove invisible aligners to clean your teeth, you don't need to worry about uneven staining or avoiding certain foods.

If you've been avoiding braces because you don't want traditional metal braces, don't waste another moment. Clear Invisalign braces are an excellent alternative that are almost completely invisible. Dealing With Dental Dilemmas: Soft Teeth and Dental Care

Being born with naturally soft teeth, I've spent a lot of time in and out of the dentist's office. Not only have I learned a lot about basic dental care, I've also discovered many tips for dealing with broken teeth, extractions, implants, and more. I decided that I wanted to make the most of my experience by sharing what I've learned with others. True first-hand experience is a great teacher, and I knew that my story could help. I created this site to do just that, and I hope that the information here helps you to understand what to expect from your dental problems.
